First Book Review for: Jesus’ Davidic Kingship – A Jewish Conversation Rediscovered, by Tov Rose
A New Book I'm writing—this is a review of the preview edition
"Tov Rose has written a resource so thorough that Bible students, ministry leaders, and every believer in Yeshua seeking to understand the unity of both the Hebrew and Apostolic Scriptures, will want a copy in their library.
In our own day, much scholarship, and certainly pulpit ministries, have moved away from advancing the truth that Yahweh’s people must understand how both Testament’s speak His revelation. The result is a rise in what I describe as abhorrent theologies that attempt to negate and reject outright Yahweh’s people Israel, argue against a literal realized eschatology where King Jesus reigns, and a misunderstanding of the role we must play as believers in these days. Tov’s book provides the biblical basis as well as the intellectual weaponry to right these wrongs."

Shalom, friends!
I’m in the process of writing a follow-up to my book, Jesus: The God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob. This is the first Book Review for Jesus’ Davidic Kingship – A Jewish Conversation Rediscovered:
“In Jesus’ Davidic Kingship, the author offers a rich and thought-provoking exploration of Jesus as the fulfillment of the Davidic covenant, deeply rooted in Jewish tradition and scripture. Written from a Messianic Jewish perspective, the work reframes the New Testament not as a departure from Judaism but as a vibrant continuation of internal Jewish dialogue during the Second Temple period.
The study begins with the foundational promise in 2 Samuel 7:12–16, where God assures David of an eternal dynasty. This covenant, the author explains, shaped generations of Jewish messianic hope—hope that was especially heightened under Roman occupation in the 1st century CE. Into this environment stepped Jesus of Nazareth, whose messianic claim sparked lively, complex discussions among his fellow Jews.
What makes this book especially compelling is its insistence that the New Testament is a Jewish text, authored by Jews, using Jewish interpretive tools such as Midrash and Pesher—hermeneutical methods also found in texts like the Dead Sea Scrolls. By doing so, the author effectively situates Jesus' life and mission within the broader context of Jewish scriptural interpretation and messianic expectation.
The book engages with the legal and theological framework of Maimonides’ Mishneh Torah, showing how Jewish expectations for the Messiah were both rigorous and spiritually rich. The New Testament, the author argues, interprets these expectations through a spiritual lens, seeing Jesus’ mission as a fulfillment of the Davidic promise in a deeper, often allegorical sense.
Definitions of key terms such as “Davidic Kingship,” “Messiah,” and “Midrash” are clearly provided, making the work accessible even to readers less familiar with Jewish scholarship. Structured with academic rigor and devotional warmth, the study invites Western Christians and those influenced by them to engage with the Jewish roots of their faith—offering not just theological insight, but a bridge between traditions often seen as divided.
In all, Jesus’ Davidic Kingship is a respectful and scholarly invitation into a 1st-century Jewish conversation that still resonates today. It challenges readers to reconsider long-held assumptions and to rediscover the Jewishness of Jesus and the New Testament itself.” {- Name to be revealed at a later date}

Introduction and Context: Jesus’ Davidic Kingship
The divine promise delivered to David—"Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever"¹—stands as a cornerstone of the Hebrew scriptures, a covenant that echoes through the annals of Jewish history. Recorded in 2 Samuel 7:12–16, this pledge to a shepherd turned king transformed David into a symbol of hope for Israel, igniting an expectation that a future descendant would restore the nation’s glory. This Davidic king was envisioned as a liberator who would free Israel from foreign domination, rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem, and usher in an era of universal peace and righteousness. This vision, woven into the prayers, prophecies, and legal traditions of the Jewish people, endured through the Babylonian exile, Hellenistic pressures, and Roman occupation, sustaining a resilient faith amid adversity. By the 1st century CE, this hope pulsed with renewed vigor in Judea, where the Roman yoke fueled a fervent longing for a deliverer from David’s line.
Into this charged Jewish landscape stepped Jesus of Nazareth, a figure whose life and mission sparked a significant conversation among his contemporaries…
